Bridal Gown Shopping Tips for Tall Women
Tall women have their own set of problems when it comes to their wedding gown shopping.
Just like petite women, tall ones too struggle in finding the clothes of their size. The problem gets worse when they are shopping for their wedding.
As we discussed in our previous post, bridal gowns generally come in a standard size. So if you’re tall, you may find difficulty in finding a dress of your choice. Just like every other body shape, you need to take care of few things too. There are certain types of patterns, silhouettes and fabrics that can make you look more beautiful.
So here are few tips that can help tall women in wedding gown shopping.
- Always pick a simple silhouette. It would help to highlight natural shape of your body. The main idea behind it is the dress should be capable of reflect your longer proportions in a well-proportionate way. The wedding dress for tall women must have lower waistline and a floor sweeping hem. And in case it has sleeves, then they must cross the wrist. Overall, a dress must not look that you’ve borrowed it from a person shorter than you.
Precaution you need to take is be simple as much as possible. Avoid embellishments like bells, ruffles or rosettes.
- Most of the tall women have slender shape. They should wear clean silhouette designed in a simplistic manner. Column dresses that come with a nipped waist is a good option for you. You need to just make sure that overdoing anything with your dress can make women with taller frame look kitschy.
Interesting thing you can do to your stature is choose a wedding gown with wrapped bodice. Otherwise, draped waist or a slit open back can also work out for you. Just stay away from beading or other embellishments.
- Another big concern of tall women is sleeves don’t reach their wrist. So it might get tricky for you to find sleeves suitable for your big arms. In the tall section most of the wedding gowns are actually meant to fit the tall women’s body precisely. Thus, such fitted dresses can make your waist or sleeves bit more longer.
So the bottom line is if you can’t find the right size of sleeves for you, then you have two options. Either you can adjust with the existing sleeves by pulling or tugging, and secondly you can dump the idea of sleeves completely.
- Tall women due to extra height lacks curves. But you can certainly create them by shopping the right wedding gown. For instance, a wispy charmeuse, or a curvy side seam will give you the right curves to flaunt. You can also go for a ball gown that fights on waist closely and then falls into a full, flowing dress at bottom. It would help to emphasize your slenderness and conceals your lack of hips.
For tall women with small bust, bodice with ruching can create volume.
